Despite being planted very late in the season, long periods of drought, high heat, and high humidity this cabbage is still developing a nice head.
Spirit PumpkinsSadly, vine borers have found my two pumpkin plants. I had three nice pumpkins developing on them. Looks like we'll be buying Jack O Lantern pumpkins again this season.

I was disappointed in the yield from my Red Norlands this year. I thought that was what I planted last year that did so well, but it must have been Red Pontiac.
ReplyDeleteI think mine would have done much better in the ground. I only had them in a 3 gallon, black container. All this above-average heat made it tough to keep them watered properly. A larger container would have made things much easier. I just used what I had around the house. Their coloring is gorgeous though. I got more than I planted, so my first attempt at growing potatoes was a success.
ReplyDeleteI did plant a bunch of Russet Burbank potatoes in the ground. I can't wait to dig those up...if only to get part of my yard back. They flopped over in the rain and continue to reach for the sky and thrive. As for the containers, I have two more left planted with Yukon Golds, because they get such great reviews for flavor. I look forward to dumping them out and see what's hidden inside.
Oh, and an update on the Sun Gold tomatoes. They taste much better now! It must be the heat, because the first ones to ripen tasted like...nothing special, cherry tomatoes. My two year old can't get enough of these. :)
